CHAMPVA and Medicare
CHAMPVA is always the secondary payer to Medicare. If you are eligible for Medicare, at any age and for any reason, you must enroll in Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B to keep your CHAMPVA benefits. Social Security Administration documentation of enrollment in both Part A and Part B is required by CHAMPVA. Preauthorization Preauthorization is necessary for organ and bone marrow transplantation, hospice services, most mental health or substance abuse services, all dental care, and all durable medical equipment with a purchase price or total rental cost of $300. Appeals Be submitted within one year of the date of the initial determination. An initial determination may be a CBOPC Explanation of Benefit (EOB) or letter.
